What is a base and an acid?

Bases and acids are two different types of chemicals. Examples of acids include citric acid found in lemons and lactic acid in dairy products. Examples of bases are in cleaning products like bleach and ammonia.

Red cabbage contains a chemical called flavin. Flavin changes color when it is added to a base or an acid. Thanks to that, you can use red cabbage to see if a liquid is a base or an acid.

I think we have had enough science, for now, let’s move on to the fun part. Here is my video that shows how to make and test the red cabbage indicator:
